What is your Coutts connection?: My surname is Coates, but spelled Coats from my grandfather back.

What is your particularly research interest or area?: I looked through a Kindle copy of the book, "No Quarter Given, the Muster Roll of Prince Charles Edward Stuart's Army, 1745 - 46" hoping to find Coats there. I've been trying to establish a more definite (or maybe just less indefinite) link to Clan Farquharson and reasoned that if a Coats served with them in the '45, that might be supportive. I didn't find my surname, but did find Coutts and two more spellings. So I did a search for that spelling and found your society. It was exciting to find the Courts Tartans and that one is based strongly on the Farquharson. My fourth gr. grandfather is my genealogical brick wall, so I'm just building a case for Farquharson. The information on you have about the name variants is new to me and very interesting. It reveals a very old relationship between the two Clans. I'm interested in finding out as much as possible about others in Clan Coutts history with the Coats variant spelling. I'm glad to have that identity as well, and I've posted it on the Clan Farquharson USA Facebook page. The Coutts, Coats, etc. members there are excited also.
