This page is to collect information as it arises in relation to the Jacobite Battle of Culloden, near Inverness, in 1745.
It is said to be the last Battle on English soil.

Coutts are usually described as a sept of Clan Farquharson, in turn part of Clan Chatten. It is likely a Coutts would be fighting for them. The Farquharson presence at Cullodon was:

John Farquharson c 1712 m Anna Farquharson of Achriachan (FG). Duff House MS 3175 Bundle LXV K27 for 1738 shows a John Farqson as tenant Newtown in Invernettie. Is this him living next to his brother below? He was a Captain under Farquharson of Monaltrie at Culloden (Muster Roll of Prince Charles Edward Stuart's Army), and taken prisoner but escaped to France (FG). His writings feature in vol 3 of the 'The Lyon in Mourning' published by the Scottish History Society and in John Prebble's 'Culloden'. See Note 1 below.

Invereary is spelt in a manner of ways and is in a number of places in Aberdeen/ Banffshire
One spelt correctly is a farm? near Kirkmichael. My family are from Kirkmichael, I have a Janet Grant and we cant resolve if it is Donald or William the husband.
